Windows automatically translates F1 key into WM_HELP messages since Windows 95 (the support article mentioned by Viorel_). You'll get back an .rc hit that points to AFX_IDP_FAILED_TO_LAUNCH_HELP. EnableHtmlHelp(); is automatically placed in the app constructor when one creates a Wizard-generated Dialog-based app with the HTML Help option.
I thought perhaps using PreTranslate to intercept F1 keydown in the App might work, but the result is exactly the same.
Two questions: 1) Why do you explicitly call HtmlHelpA rather than just calling HtmlHelp? 2) What happens when you step into the MFC source code looking at the call stack, etc. The instructions relate the OnHelpInfo handler to a static two-dimensional array and to a .txt file with help text in it. Arjay - Thanks for the great tips on debugging. I do not believe that I am alone in this feeling.
