SHould be looked at. The default power management settings on most Windows-based PCs turn off USB devices (including USB hard drives) after a certain amount of time to save power. The system is XP home, AMD 3000+. My problem is ocurring on an IBM server with dual HD's running in RAID 1. have a peek here

After a bit of fooling around I uninstalled the Intel Storage Manager and boom, everything is fine again, chkdsk is happy and no more error 51 in the event log.
