rick gregory I understand about the plugins… but if you're at all open to switching I'd recommend a quick look at what you have installed and see 1) if you actually Unmounted the laptop, found walls of dust. My laptop has a dual core processor and 2 GB of RAM (the standard off the shelf package). previous software programming should lead us to working for a solution, NOT more of the same comments. Of course, there is no "clear browser cache" option any more, but there is now a "hamburger menu: More Tools: Clear Browsing Data" option.
It still happens with 5.0.375.70 beta; either Gmail or Reader pin my system at 100% CPU. Even on iOS chrome eats up a lot of the battery power. Thanks for figuring it out! Lowest Cpu Usage Browser Can you update what's the status of this bug?

I'd also classify this as a significant quality issue and a 4.0 release blocker. This is strange since I disabled all offline functionality from gmail, calendar, docs. Despite how much I like the interface, it's just a mess of a browser. It lets you give permission to an entire site, plus it gives you the ability to partially disallow the feeds on a page.
